Almost everyone has a tile floor somewhere in their home. Kitchen floors, bathroom floors, corridors and even entrance hall floors are often tiled. A floor gets it’s strength from grout, grout is a kind of adhesive that is coherent between the tiles and the ground surface. In the years to come the adhesive breaks down due to cleaning chemicals, water, dust and people walking on the tile floor. All these external threats attract bacteria and dirt. To guarantee the strength of the grout it is necessary to clean it. If cleaning does not help remove the grout and replace it. In this article i will give you some guidelines on how to clean grout.
- After the installation of your tile floor you should seal the grout and tiles to protect it against dirt, water and chemicals. When you forgot about this and you want your grout and tiles to keep their beauty it is a smart choice to let it reseal by a professional.
- When you face stained grout it is best to make a mix of baking soda with water. This becomes a thick paste that you can brush on the tiles and grout. Scrub it with
your grout brush until the stain is gone and clean the area with a cloth and water to avoid damage. - If you have some stains that did not get removed the first time you can prepare a mixture of water and bleach. Make sure you keep the mixture on the lining of the grout and gently rub it into the stain.
- There are also stains that through time have soaked into the grout, these stains can only be removed by removing the actual grout. You will need a hand held rotator or mini sander to remove the grout. Replace the grout and do not forget to seal the floor tiles, this way you can enjoy the beauty of your tiles for a long time.
If you follow these guidelines you will certainly extend the life span of your tiles and grout. This post is written by guest author Frank Baltazar, he loves to write about cleaning in the house. His latest post was entitled: How to clean granite countertops.
