How to Clean Tile Grout Effectively

Grout is a kind of plaster that is used to fill the spaces between tiles to keep them together and prevent any damage on the edges of the tiles. The grout can accumulate dirt quickly especially in places like the bathroom and kitchen which are exposed to water, soap and food. So it has to be cleaned to keep it neat and tidy. If the tiles are regularly maintained it is easy to clean the grout too.

There are many products that can be used to clean tile grout. But some of them may not be as effective as others. Instead of spending large amounts of money on expensive products you can use some simple household items like baking soda or vinegar. But first you need to understand the kind of dirt that is on the tiles. You can use a mixture of water and vinegar (in equal parts) to clean the bathroom and kitchen tile grout. Though it may not give out a good smell it is very effective in removing the grime and stains. If there are stubborn stains you may use a paste made out of water and baking soda. Use a strong brush and rub the paste on the stain and scrub it. Most of the tough stains can be removed in this way.

If the home ingredients are not effective then you should try some cleaning products available in the market. If the product is bleach based then do not use it on colored grout because it may cause discoloration. Never overuse the product. Read all the instructions and use accordingly. Also remember to rinse off the product completely from the floor by using a good water mop. Use good cleaning tools also for better results.

It is easy to clean tile grout in the kitchen because most of the grime is caused by every day food splashes. First try some household ingredients. Baking soda works efficiently on the kitchen tiles. If it doesn’t work use household cleaning products. In places like the bathroom where the stains are really tough you need to use commercial cleansers. Bleach based and oxygen cleansers are good to be used in the bathrooms. You can also use grout cleaning machine for large scale cleaning purposes. They may be expensive though. You can rent these which may be a cost effective option for cleaning tile grout.

Whatever be the method you choose remember to use gloves and goggles to protect yourself from the harmful chemicals used in these.
